Calcite
Calcite is an extremely abundant calcium carbonate mineral that serves as the primary building block for widespread sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, such as limestone and marble, as well as the main component of stalactites and stalagmites in caves. Renowned for its extraordinary morphological diversity, it forms in hundreds of different crystal shapes and is highly famous for its optical property of double refraction, which splits light rays so that objects viewed through clear specimens appear visibly doubled.
