Red-eyed tree frog

Famous for its brilliant neon-green skin and bulging scarlet eyes, the red-eyed tree frog is one of the most vibrant and iconic symbols of the Central American rainforest canopy. Despite its dazzling look, it is completely non-toxic; instead, it relies on a clever defense called ‘startle coloration,’ suddenly flashing its fiery eyes and bright orange-and-blue flanks to momentarily freeze predators while it leaps safely into the trees.
