St. Peter and Paul

Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul

Perched dramatically on the rocky Petrov hill, the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul is the most iconic landmark of Brno, dominating the city skyline with its soaring, neo-Gothic twin towers that were added in the early 20th century. It is famously known for its unique tradition of ringing the noon bells an hour early at 11:00 AM, a historic trick that successfully saved the city from a massive Swedish siege during the Thirty Years’ War in 1645.

Neo-Gothic stonework

The facade of the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul is a breathtaking display of intricate neo-Gothic stonework. Highly decorated 84-meter-tall towers that were masterfully added by architect August Kirstein in 1905.
